The DRIP Matrix

How are you spending time in your business?

In Dan Martell’s book Buy Back Your Time, he goes over where your time is actually going and it breaks down into 4 categories.

Coined the DRIP Matrix, let’s see how this breaks down:

  • Delegation Quadrant: Tasks that drain your energy and make little money. (These need to go ASAP!)

  • Replacement Quadrant: Tasks that make money but drain your energy.

  • Investment Quadrant: Activities that light you up but don't directly make money (like family time, hobbies, and community stuff).

  • Production Quadrant: Tasks that both energize you AND make significant money. (Your happy place!)

So what’s the goal here? Get out of those draining quadrants and spend more time in the Production Quadrant. People perform better on tasks they enjoy, it’s not rocket science. And it’s not surprising this leads more money.

Most entrepreneurs hire for positions as they grow rather than hiring specifically to buy back their time.

Usually this turns into you an admin instead of the visionary leader for your company. And even when you hire admins, you become the admin of the admins… not exactly much different.

Is 10X Actually Easier Than 2x?

Here's a mind-blowing concept that goes against everything we've been taught…

Trying to grow your business 10 times bigger is actually easier than trying to double it.

When you aim for 2x growth, you're basically stuck doing more of the same stuff—just harder and longer. You're trying to squeeze out incremental improvements while keeping 80% of what you're already doing.

Going for 10x is different.

It immediately forces you out of your current approach because you simply can't get there with brute force or working harder. Instead of having endless options, a 10x goal narrows your focus dramatically. There are very few paths that can get you to 10x—maybe only one—which makes your decisions much simpler.

Small goals give you too many pathways and too little clarity. Giant goals instantly separate what works from what doesn't. Almost nothing you're currently doing will get you to 10x, and that's actually the beauty of it—it filters out all the noise and forces you to focus on what truly matters.

The Power of Authority

Persuasion is actually 80% who you are, 15% what you do, and only 5% who the other person is.

Your own authority plays a much bigger role than most of us realize.

Instead of obsessing over the perfect script or technique, successful salespeople focus first on developing their own authority presence. As Aristotle put it, "Character may almost be called the most effective means of persuasion."

Authority can be developed. It's built on five key pillars: confidence, self-discipline, leadership, gratitude, and enjoyment. Confidence being the most important.

Start by working on small, daily behaviors that build your authority presence. Do the small things you say you’re gonna do.

Don't get discouraged if progress seems slow. The goal is to form the "river" so these behaviors eventually flow automatically. Take a moment to assess where you might be weakest in these five areas. That's where your biggest opportunity for improvement lies.
